Shell Programming and Scripting

I have defined a set of global variables at the beginning of my script as below:

export ITEM1=SUCCESS
export ITEM2=FAILURE
export ITEM3=UNAVAILABLE
export ITEM5=FAILURE
export ITEM6=SUCCESS

now I have a shell script function which returns a value in below format.

ITEM1 SUCCESS
ITEM3 UNAVAILABLE
ITEM2 FAILURE
ITEM5 SUCCESS
ITEM6 SUCCESS

These values contain more than 20 lines and they can have only three values in the second column ie SUCCESS, FAILURE & UNAVAILABLE.

Now I want to compare the set of exported values and throw a echo if there is a mismatch between the exported value and current function returned value. The output of function is not in same order as my export.
I feel stupid to write 20 + if conditions to check this. There must be a better way to do it.
