Help !!! need on sed Command

want to write certain number of lines to the outfile, when I tried to execute the following command in unix script, got error out.

$SRC_FILE variable is not returning value to the sed command, which supposed to be the source file name

Command:

Code:
sed -n \'"${BEGIN_FROM},${LAST_TO} w ${OUT_FILE}"\' "${SRC_FILE}"

Error Messsage:

Code:
sed: 0602-403 '1,3 w /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt_split1' is not a recognized function.
sed: 0602-403 '4,6 w /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt_split2' is not a recognized function.
sed: 0602-403 '7,9 w /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt_split3' is not a recognized function.

Try leaving out the occurrences of \'

The script is running without error, but no outfile generated. Below is the printed output of the command...

Code:
sed -n "${BEGIN_FROM},${LAST_TO} w ${OUT_FILE}" "${SRC_FILE_PTH}"

==>
Code:
sed -n 1,3 w /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt_split1 /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt

when I execute the command ==>
Code:
sed -n 1,3 w /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt_split1 /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt

got error message:
Code:
sed: 0602-403 1,3 is not a recognized function.

Code:
sed -n '1,3 w /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt_split1' /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt

- If I run the command with the single quote around line number and target file, then the command executes fine...

Problem is in executing the command with variables.....

Code:
sed -n "${BEGIN_FROM},${LAST_TO} w ${OUT_FILE}" "${SRC_FILE_PTH}"

is not the same as and does not translate into:

Code:
sed -n 1,3 w /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt_split1 /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt

The latter is incorrect, because the quotes are missing.

My guess is that one of your variables is not set correctly.

execute
Code:
set -x

first and then try again to see what is going on..

when I printed
Code:
==>  print "sed -n '$BEGIN_FROM,$LAST_TO w $OUT_FILE' $SRC_FILE_PTH"

following is the output

Code:
+ print sed -n '10,14 w /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt_split4' /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt

command
Code:
==> sed -n "${BEGIN_FROM},${LAST_TO} w ${OUT_FILE}" "${SRC_FILE_PTH}"

following is the outout

Code:
+ sed -n 10,14 w /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt_split4 /opt/TgtFiles/test.txt

I cannot reproduce this..

That should be something like:
Code:
==> sed -n "${BEGIN_FROM},${LAST_TO} w ${OUT_FILE}" "${SRC_FILE_PTH}"
+ sed -n '10,14 w /opt/pcenter/sit2/rebates/TgtFiles/test.txt_split4' '/opt/pcenter/sit2/rebates/TgtFiles/test.txt'

Is what you posted what your shell printed after set -x was issued?

What is your OS and version and what shell are you using?

I just tried it on AIX 7, the prompt indeed says:
Code:
+ sed -n 10,14 w /opt/pcenter/sit2/rebates/TgtFiles/test.txt_split4 /opt/pcenter/sit2/rebates/TgtFiles/test.txt

So the quoting information is not accurate (if you really execute it like the prompt suggest, the command would not work), but the command works and the output file contains the expected output..
