Did you try it with a 'small' y, just to be sure it expects a capital one?

Tried with a small y, but I get the same results.

Code:
./emocmrsp <<EOF
>
> y
> EOF

To keep the forums high quality for all users, please take the time to format your posts correctly.

First of all, use Code Tags when you post any code or data samples so others can easily read your code. You can easily do this by highlighting your code and then clicking on the # in the editing menu. (You can also type code tags [code] and [/code] by hand.)

Second, avoid adding color or different fonts and font size to your posts. Selective use of color to highlight a single word or phrase can be useful at times, but using color, in general, makes the forums harder to read, especially bright colors like red.

Third, be careful when you cut-and-paste, edit any odd characters and make sure all links are working property.

Thank You.

It may be trying to read text from /dev/tty, directly from the terminal, as programs expecting y/n answers from a human arguably should. If that's the case, you may need to use the expect language to automate it.

Also, post the snippet of the script which covers the related part.

As suggested, I've enlisted the help of Expect.

The Expect program works for the first input (Line Feed) but I"m still getting a problem with the second input.

First Input:

Email address/User Name: <<<Line feed works>>>

Second Input:

Do you wish to remain uninformed of security issues ([Y]es, [N]o) [N]:

<<< The second input return me to the command line.>>>

I'm attaching the bash script for analysis.

Any suggestions?

Here's my expect program.

Code:
#!/usr/bin/expect

spawn /bin/sh  /opt/bsaitmod/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_2/OPatch/ocm/bin/emocmrsp

set ANSWER "Y"

expect "User Name:"

send -- "\r"

expect "uninformed*"

#send "Y\n"

send "$ANSWER\r"

Someone kindly gave me the solution to this.

Thank you.

Code:
#!/usr/bin/expect -f
spawn ./emocmrsp
expect {
"Email address/User Name:"
  {
   send "\n"
   exp_continue
  }
  "Do you wish to remain uninformed of security issues*"
  {
   send "Y\n"
   exp_continue
  }}

You store it as createocm.exp and run it, it should be executable and you should have expect installed

$ ./createocm.exp
