Code:

mypid=`ps -ef | grep whileloop.sh | grep -v grep | awk '{print $2}'`

why it is necessary to change my code?

Backticks are deprecated. Use the preferred command substitution $(...):
Code:
mypid=$(ps -ef | awk '/[w]hileloop.sh/ {print $2}' )

Because double quotes " don't do that, backticks ` do. That's what they're for.

ahem....

The probably shortest and most efficient way to do this is:

Code:
mypid=$$

because "$$" evaluates to the PID of the running process in all POSIX-compatible shells.

I hope this helps.
