1) man crontab (compulsory reading)!
2) Run crontab -e to edit, add 0 * * * * df -h to the end, save it, et voila! you'll have your hourly disk space usage served on a silver plate.

what about the part where i set my email address? can i have the same command saved in a external file? i might add a series of commands like change directory then run a command.

Ok, So try this...

Code:
Cat>testmail.sh

#!/bin/sh
echo "This is a test mail " | mail -s "TEST MAIL" you_user_id@xxxx.com

and set this in cron for every 5 mins and please remove from cron after testing otherwise it will fill up ur INBOX
