He already has perl, just not that module.

This is why I dislike perl modules; nobody bothers writing vanilla perl code, nobody can understand or use each other's programs... The POSIX module fortunately comes standard:

GNU's date has this capability to entertain your request...if you have that installed.

date -d "last saturday"

or

Code:
date -d "last saturday" +%Y%m%d
