History and AutoComplete
Hi,
I enabled the Autocomplete of filename by the command set -o emacs

But i couldn't enjoy the benifits of vi anymore. i.e I couldn't get the command history by pressing Esc and k.

How to enjoy both of this features at a time.?

I have had a similar problem when I started my new job on an Irix system. Turns out there is no ksh on my system - it is just a symbolic link to sh.

I am guessing my sh cannot support both features at once, but it would be nice to have a more informed answer too!

To go up a line in emacs mode use control-p. To auto-complete in vi mode use Esc \. Both modes have both features. If you want to use vi syntax for one feature and emacs syntax for another, you are out of luck though.

I found it more useful. As I'm practised to vi mode, I will utilize both the features in that mode. Thanks for ur efforts

autocomplete - bash

Hi all I have installed Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 onto a Proliant DL580 (dual XEON 2.8GHz processors). The bash shell is not autocompleting filenames/directorynames when I hit escape twice. History (via Ctrl+r works). Is there a setting somewhere to enable this? Thanks. (2 Replies)
