heres the line i think is giving me the error. any help is appreciated.

code:
if [ `ps -ef|grep "SOMETHING" | grep -c -v grep` -eq 0 ]

or posibly;

while [ `ps -ef|grep $wlPID|grep -c -v grep` -ne 0 ] ||
[ `ps -ef|grep $wlPID1|grep -c -v grep` -ne 0 ]

error :
usage: grep [-E|-F] [-c|-l|-q] [-bhinsvx] -e pattern_list...
[-f pattern_file...] [file...]

Adding to Ygor point,

`ps -ef|grep $wlPID1|grep -c -v grep` -ne 0 will not work!!

try as,

ps -ef | grep "$wlPID1" | grep -cqv grep

if [[ $? -eq 0 ]]
then
..
fi

-q option with grep used to return code.

hth.
