Power ftp script

Hi friends,
There is a shell script on the client side system which does ftp of files.
But i see that some files are being ftp'd and it is failing at one particular.
Actually this is a cron job which executes for every 15 minutes and some times the ftp of all files is successful.
i am getting the error like the line below
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for datafile.
426 Data connection closed, receive file datafile aborted.
Can any one tell me why this is failing ?
what can be the reasons of such failures ?
Please help
Thanks in advance
Veera

ftp script

Hi vgersh,
Thanks for the reply ..Seen the list of FTP return codes.
So if there is such a error like
426 Connection closed; transfer aborted.
doest it mean the only way is to restart the ftp session ?
I mean do we have to run the script again ?
is that the solution ?
thanks in advance
Veera

This is usually a firewall issue. You will need a network engineer with a sniffer to be sure. ftp is a hard protocol for firewalls because it needs two connections and one of them is backwards. Passive mode ftp helps some firewall problrms, but not all ftp clients and servers support it. For example, HP's ftp client supports it. You just type "passive" command. Now any get's and put's are in passive mode. Passive mode still uses two connections, but there is no switching of client and server. Look in your docs to see if you can try passive mode. If not you need that network engineer.

PHP just one Q

Are you sure some files are getting transferred and only one perticular file is not ?
Can you check the size of the file not getting transferred ?
Check transferring this file using ftp on command line yourself and check if its taking time for transfer the file.
Also check on remote end if some part of file is transferred or nothing is transferred.
