Search the shell variable inside awk
Hai,

I need to search a variable inside a file using awk in AIX.
for ex:
file.txt
one
two
three
four
five

i need to get the lines with two
awk '/two/ {print}' file.txt
But i need to change the two as a variable since it would be changed on runtime..i tried like below..nothing give me the result
Code:
awk -v a=two '/a/ {print}' file.txt

awk -v a=two '/'$a'/ {print}' file.txt

Please advise

awk -v a="$two" 'index($0,a)>0'  somefile

This does not do regex only does pure pattern like
Code:
grep -F 'fixed pattern'

awk 'boolean value'  inputfile

awk will print a line of input for every line that passes the boolean test.
Code:
index($0,"string")

returns a number > 0 when it finds the string anywhere. >0 is interpreted as boolean true, so the line get displayed or printed.

Urgent - Search a string inside awk

I need to search for string which is formed from the awk input file in a file given as input through -v option. I tried using the while (getline filename) and match().
