Issue in echo

Hi Friends,

I am trying a very simple thing to print through bash shell scripting using echo but failing. My script is-
Code:
A=Abha
B=Biha
C=2011
D=5
echo " The name is $A_$B$C0$D"

It should print-
Code:
"The name is Abha_Biha201105"

but it's printing something else. Is my script wrong? What will be the correct one?

Thanks,
Naresh

You need to separate the variable name A from the _, and C from the 0
Code:
echo " The name is ${A}_$B${C}0$D"

This goes whenever a variable name joins with other characters which would also form a valid variable name.

With that logic this echoes "echo". Question about echo!

echo `echo ` doesn't echoes anything. And it's logic. But echo `echo `echo ` ` does echoes "echo". What's the logic of it? the `echo `echo ` inside of the whole (first) echo, echoes nothing, so the first echo have to echo nothing but echoes "echo" (too much echoing :P):o (2 Replies)
