I have a set of multiple files out of which one i am showing below :

B01***DETALLADA    43984

The BO1 is the starting pattern of the second line. In the 2nd line in position 30,31,32 i need to replace 111, instead of 3 spaces in the file i need 111. need a query for this.

the output file will look something like this: --

Code:

A0120110124102329  BED.
B01***DETALLADA    43984     111

the 111 in the above file is exactly in the second line at position 30,31,32.

Try this,

awk '{if(/B01/){printf "%-29s%s\n",$0,"111"}else {print}}' inputfile

Through sed..

sed '/B01/s/./111/30' inputfile > outfile
