Network Need a shell script
Hi,

i am a newbie to shell scripting....

i need to find out the a list of users have accounts on a list of servers.

/etc/passwd
Take a look at the /etc/passwd file

Probably also a good idea to invest in a unix book or two!

I need a script which automate the process of verifying for user accounts on all the servers. user accounts are local accounts on all the servers.

list vs. verify
list and verify are two very different things.
What have you done so far, and what are you really trying to do?
For instance..
Code:
cat /etc/passwd

will show the user file
but, you must do something different to verify an entry, like
Code:
grep username1 < /etc/passwd

You don't realy expect others to make the script for you ?

Take a look at the ssh command, and you'll be able to execute commands on distant computers, and as joeyg said you can parse output of the commands with grep or awk.

yes I think its good write a script which does a looping checking usernames and give results.
