using awk / usando awk

i've tried awk for edit a sheet.

trying:

Code:
awk '{print $2,$4,$5, $7, $8}' estacoes.dat | awk '{FS=",";print $1, $2,$3,$4,$5}'

but the first line remained with the "," separating the columns.

why this don't work?

i got the expected result using sed

Code:
awk '{print $2,$4,$5, $7, $8}' estacoes.dat | sed 's/,/ /g'

but i didn't uderstand why awk don't work.

--------------------------

tentei editar uma planilha usando awk.

mas não funcinou, usei:

Code:

This won't work, you're echoing the file name to awk.

Should be:
Code:
awk -F, '{print $2, $4, $5, $7, $8}' OFS="," estacoes.dat

i have this sheet (just a part of it - estacoes.dat):

ESTAÇÃO DATA / HORA PROF. OBSERVAÇÕES
LATITUDE LONGITUDE
GG MM N/S GG MM E/W ATINGIDA ( m )
OCS4 001 181455Z/NOV/09 34 31,03 S 49 18,04 W 3305 X
OCS4 002 182057Z/NOV/09 34 12,40 S 49 56,21 W 2601 X
OCS4 003 190240Z/NOV/09 33 53,45 S 50 35,37 W 1350 X
OCS4 004 190730Z/NOV/09 33 35,05 S 51 10,99 W 100 X
OCS4 005 190919Z/NOV/09 33 28,40 S 51 24,18 W 75 X

i removed the header and just want the columns 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8. In columns 4 and 8, i have to remove the comma to make some calculations.

but using the command "awk" (with the command above) the first line continued with comma and the other had the commas replaced by spaces.

you have a output file something like:--
Code:
OCS4 001 181455Z/NOV/09 34 31,03 S 49 18,04 W 3305 X
OCS4 002 182057Z/NOV/09 34 12,40 S 49 56,21 W 2601 X
OCS4 003 190240Z/NOV/09 33 53,45 S 50 35,37 W 1350 X
OCS4 004 190730Z/NOV/09 33 35,05 S 51 10,99 W 100 X
OCS4 005 190919Z/NOV/09 33 28,40 S 51 24,18 W 75 X

can you also tell me what is the output you are expecting.

when a use awk with the comando above, i was expecting this result:

001 34 31 03 49 18 04
002 34 12 40 49 56 21
003 33 53 45 50 35 37
004 33 35 05 51 10 99
005 33 28 40 51 24 18
006 33 20 40 51 39 75

i got it with sed, but i'd like to learn with awk.

sorry, i'm just a beginner!

actually, i did some calculations with the columns of geographical coordinates puting the columns corresponding latitude (2, 3 and 4 from the result above expected) and longitude (5, 6 and 7) in degrees with the comand:

Code:
awk '{print $1,"-"$2+$3/60+$4/6000,"-"$5+$6/60+$7/6000}' estacoes_editada.dat

finally, i want this result:

001 -34.5667 -49.3667
002 -34.8667 -50.2833
003 -34.6333 -51.2
004 -33.6667 -52.8167
005 -34.1333 -51.7
006 -34 -52.9
007 -33.5 -53.0333
008 -33.6 -52.25
009 -33.8167 -51.6667
