FTP script

Hi All,

Below is the snippet of my code:

Code:
do
echo Transferring file $file
ftp -n $PRIMARY << END
quote USER $USER
quote PASS $PASSWD
cd $PORTOUT_ERRORDIR
put $file
END
FTPEXITSTATUS=$?
#echo ftp status: $FTPEXITSTATUS
if [ $FTPEXITSTATUS != "0" ]
then
        ftp -n $SECONDARY << END
        quote USER $USER
        quote PASS $PASSWD
        cd $PORTOUT_ERRORDIR
        put $file
        END
        FTPEXITSTATUS1=$?

elif [ $FTPEXITSTATUS1 != "0" ]
then
        echo ftp failed for file: $file
        echo SUPPORT PERSONNEL TO CHECK
else
        mv $file $file.done
fi
done

What I am trying to do is, ftping to primary first and if it fails ftping to secondary.

But unable to achieve so, could you guys please tell me where I am going wrong.

Thanks

First, if a script isn't working, don't just write that but give any errors, logs, ... too. Otherwise we won't know what to look for.

Second, your problem is in the second FTP session, the ending token for a here-document (in your case END) always has to start on the first column and has to be the only text on that line.

maybe...

I think keyword END must be in front without blank.
How about this?

Code:
        ftp -n $SECONDARY << END
        quote USER $USER
        quote PASS $PASSWD
        cd $PORTOUT_ERRORDIR
        put $file
END :confused:
        FTPEXITSTATUS1=$?

thanks~ Smilie

Just not sure about my if-then-elif stmt.

Could you guys please let me know whether I am correct or not as I cannot actually transfer the files in the environment I am writing the script.

What I want to achieve is that, ftp to primary 1st & if its a success then move files to file.done.

If ftp to primary fails then ftp to secondary & if its a success then move files to file.done & if ftp to secondary also fails then echo some stmts.

Thanks
