Hi,

I have a sample string and wanted to find out a string in between this string.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><GCEmail xmlns:sw="http://www.rediff.com/schemas/email/" xmlns:w="http://schemas.com/office/word/2003/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" ><_ARGUMENTS><ARG_TO>.COM</ARG_TO><ARG_F_kam/>D>en-US</ARG_LANG_CD><ARG_OUT_MESSAGE_ID>1234567</ARG_OUT_MESSAGE_ID><ARG_TYPE_CD>

The above string is in a single line and i have some 60 files where i need to search the pattern.

My Output should show only

<ARG_OUTBOUND_MESSAGE_ID>1234567</ARG_OUTBOUND_MESSAGE_ID>

This will probably work:

perl -0777 -ne 'BEGIN {$tag=shift;}; s/<!--.*?-->//sg; while (/<$tag.*?>(.*?)<\/$tag.*?>/sg){print "$1\n"}' ARG_OUTBOUND_MESSAGE_ID *your_files.xml

If you want the tags, like your sample, make this mod:
