Explanation for printf string in awk

hi all
can any one help me to understand this
Code:
bdf -t vfxs | awk '/\//{printf("%-30s%-10s%-10s%-10s%-5s%-10s\n",$1,$2,$3,$4,$5,$6)}'

i want to understand the numbers %-30S%

How to print a string using printf?

Resource script for tomcat. It manages a Tomcat instance as an HA resource. SUPPORTED PARAMETERS
