How to "time" a loop in CSH ?
Hi,

I am trying to estimate the time that each part of my program takes to execute. With BASH, I used to use time:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
time while [ $go ]
do
....
....
done

This work just fine. However some of my program is in CSH. I tried the same kind of command, but it does not work:
Code:
#!/bin/csh
time foreach i ( 1 2 3 4 )
echo $i
end

But that gives me an error message. How should I place the "time" to measure the time taken by the loop?

I wrote loop statement into shell script test.csh & used time statement. It worked.

time csh test.csh

Thanks for the answer. This works fine, but however this is not efficient.

With CSH, I cannot get the time function work even with a simple allocation.

Things that work with CSH:
Code:
time MY_PROGRAM

Things that do NOT work with CSH:
Code:
time set a=1
time set a=`any_program`
time foreach i 1 2 3
   ...
done
[all similar commands]

In short: I hate CSH!!
