Same file in different directories

Hi Gurus,

I was wondering whether there is a way to have the same content of files reflected in different directories when you change a file at one directory.

For example say I have two directories "dir1" & "dir2" under /export/home/ directory. And a sub-directory "subdir" under both dir1 & dir2. If I have same file "file1" under dir1 & dir2 and if it is changed in one directory the same change has to be reflected in the other directory. But I don't want any similar named files under sub directory "subdir" to be changed.

Does this requirement makes any sense? Can you please shed some light?

Thanks
Shash

You mean you would have a file called file1 in both dir1 and dir2 but that file would certainly not exist in subdir?
(??)
One question:
Why would you not simply use a symbolic link on file1 from dir1 to dir2, then whatever change in dir1 or dir2 to the file will be seen (talking of content not timestamp) in both directories without having anything to do...

Thanks for the reply vbe. File1 would not be present in Subdir.
I can create a link but I need this to happen to all files present in dir1 & dir2. Can't we do something at the directory level?

Thanks
Shash
