question on grep..

i have a question on grep

input file:

FIRST NAME :ANNE
LAST NAME :CRUZ
<text>
<text>
<text>
FIRST NAME :JOHN
LAST NAME :ALBA
<text>
<text>
<text>
FIRST NAME :IRMA
LAST NAME :JONES
<text>
<text>
<text>

output file:

ANNE CRUZ
JOHN ALBA
IRMA JONES

on my original script, i tried:

Code:

grep "FIRST" input_file | awk '{print substr($3,2)}' > first
grep "LAST" input_file | awk '{print substr($3,2)}' > last
paste first last >> output file

can you help me to simplify my code? just to grep "NAME"?

thanks a lot!

Try this,

grep "NAME" <Filename> | cut -d':' -f2 | paste - -

Try...If you are particular about grep
Code:
grep "NAME" input_file | awk '{FS=":";s=$2;getline;print s" "$2}'

else
Code:
awk '/FIRST NAME/ {FS=":";s=$2;getline;print s" "$2}' input_file
