RPM Up-gradation

Hi,
I was reading on RPM upgradtion process here: http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm/ch-rpm-upgrade.html

Here the author mentioned regarding: "Original file", "Current file" and "New file"
I can understand this in this way:
- "Original file" --> Config file from mypackage-1.0.0.1.rpm
- "Current file" ---> ???
- "New file" -------> Config file from mypackage-1.0.0.2.rpm

What is "Current file" here?
Also, I will get back with more.

thanks.

It's all there in the text
Quote:
  1. The MD5 checksum of the file when it was originally installed. We'll call this the original file.
  2. The MD5 checksum of the file as it exists at upgrade time. We'll call this the current file.
  3. The MD5 checksum of the corresponding file in the new package. We'll call this the new file.
Meaning the current file may be the same as the original file, unless it has been modified (eg. if it's an adapted configuration file).

thanks for that.

If that is the case, then original config file will always be stored in some place along with the current file.

So can I say interpret like this , if 'myconfig.cfg' is a part of package my-package.rpm & when this package & config get installed to certain location (say, /usr/my-package), then, at the same time rpm stores the copy of myconfig in some other location.

right?

No, it just saves a checksum of the file, possible cleaned of unnecessary characters like space, tab, empty lines, ...
