i need to search a script that looks like this

Value      Last number    O R-Cycle Days Left
seq1             5               N    N          500
seq2           14              N     Y         170
seq3           26              N     N       54

The file can have any number of values.

I need search the file and find records that have
R-Cycle = N AND
Days Left < 364
Days Left between 180 and 270
Days Left Between 90 and 179
Days Left Between 30 and 89
Days Left < 30

I need the value field returned for each category and redirected to a different file.
if not record returns for a category, a file is not created.

I can do it by doing a series of if-then (and an AND )statements and several different awk statements. is it possible to do it in 1 awk script?

Him your categories do not all seem to be mutually exclusive, is that correct?

yes. but i dont see how that matters. you search by field. I was hoping to do it in one awk command as opposed to multiple 'and' statements.

So whats the big deal...the single awk script will also contain multiple if-then statements anded together...due to the "days left" criteria used...

how do i do 'ands' inside awk. when i said and i meant

if [ awk stuff ... ] AND [ awk stuff ] then

how do i do the ands inside the awk script itself? that is the question I am asking.
