Question Getting string from a File between 2 well known strings.

Hi,
I have a file server1.log with following lines.

[7/3/13 11:50:35:767 EDT] 00002b77 ThreadMonitor W WSVR0605W: Thread "WebContainer : 2" (00000046) has been active for 542865 milliseconds and may be hung. There is/are 3 thread(s) in total in the server that may be hung.

I want to find out how many threads are hung..
So basically I want to grep "3" in this case.

Ultimate goal is to get the number between "are" and "thread" strings, which tells me that I have this number of thread hung from "server1"...and send an email to admin..
Thx for your help..

Using sed:
Code:
sed 's#.*is\/are ##;s#thread.*##' file

Using ksh:
Code:
#!/bin/ksh

while read line
do
        thread_count="${line##*is\/are }"
        thread_count="${thread_count%%thread*}"
        print $thread_count
done < file
