NAME

       getpid, getppid - get process ids

SYNOPSIS

       int getppid(void)

DESCRIPTION

       Getpid  reads  /dev/pid	(see cons(3)) and converts it to get the process id of the current process, a number guaranteed to be unique among
       all running processes on the machine executing getpid.

       Getppid reads /dev/ppid (see cons(3)) and converts it to get the id of the parent of the current process.

DIAGNOSTICS

       Returns 0 and sets errstr if unsuccessful.

DESCRIPTION

     The getpid() system call returns the process ID of the calling process.  Though the ID is guaranteed to be unique, it should NOT be used for
     constructing temporary file names, for security reasons; see mkstemp(3) instead.

     The getppid() system call returns the process ID of the parent of the calling process.

ERRORS

     The getpid() and getppid() system calls are always successful, and no return value is reserved to indicate an error.

HISTORY
