to catch a certain process, you can always use tools like dstat , rrdtool, etc. You just have to find a parses and construct a method for certain process.
Ahh, just got in mind that you can use also "mtrace" or "strace" in conjunction with the script to trace eventual problems.

Am surprised how strace would be helpful for memory-leak checking ? Smilie

Can you give the distribution in which mtrace would be available?

Anyway, I need to research on other tools you had mentioned.
Thanks for that.

Hi. This might be a strange request, but does anyone have any idea on a simple shell script that would use more and more memory as it ran? Like a purposeful leak. I want to test the behaviour of an already running program when the machine runs out of memory. Thanks! (4 Replies)
