STRFRY(3) Linux Programmer's Manual STRFRY(3)NAME
strfry - randomize a string
SYNOPSIS
#define _GNU_SOURCE /* See feature_test_macros(7) */
#include <string.h>
char *strfry(char *string);
DESCRIPTION
The strfry() function randomizes the contents of string by using rand(3) to randomly swap characters in the string. The result is an ana-
gram of string.
RETURN VALUE
The strfry() functions returns a pointer to the randomized string.

memfrob - frobnicate (encrypt) a memory area
SYNOPSIS
#define _GNU_SOURCE /* See feature_test_macros(7) */
#include <string.h>
void *memfrob(void *s, size_t n);
DESCRIPTION
The memfrob() function encrypts the first n bytes of the memory area s by exclusive-ORing each character with the number 42. The effect
can be reversed by using memfrob() on the encrypted memory area.
Note that this function is not a proper encryption routine as the XOR constant is fixed, and is suitable only for hiding strings.
RETURN VALUE
The memfrob() function returns a pointer to the encrypted memory area.

I have a Linux C program I'm writing that has one section where, within a large string, I need to substitute a smaller string for another, and those probably won't be the same size.
For instance, if I have a string:
"Nowisthetimeforallgoodmen"
and I want to substitute 'most' for 'all' the... (2 Replies)
Hi,
Is there a tool somewhat parallel to rev, but which randomizes instead of reverses?
I've tried rl, but I can only get it to randomize words.
I was hoping for something like this
echo "hello" | ran
leolh
less simpler solutions are also welcome.
Sorry if the question is... (21 Replies)
