From Flimpsy to Limpsy

Our stack used to be FreeBSD - Lighttpd - MySQL - Perl - Python - C++, which abbreviates to flimppc++ and pronounced as flimpsy.
Not great, but still better than our newer stack: Linux - Lighttpd - MariaDB - Perl - Python - C++, which abbreviates to llimppc++. The phonetic meaning behind that word is much less sympathetic: Limpsy - Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Ironically, we are exactly making this move for performance reasons. Such is the tragic of wanting high-performance computing machines.

We decided to use FLOP for a project acronym. That turned out to be a self-fulfilling name. Gotta watch what you name things.... or FLOP will become a limpsy project. Smilie

Makes one also wonder why no one ever talks about megaflops anymore, but that petaflops and exaflops are all very desirable. Yes, that is plural and, yes, I never understood it either.
