After enabling firewall Freebsd 5.3

After I enable the firewall in freebsd (IPFW) , my DNS says:

router# nslookup host.kahle.net
Server: 216.58.24.33
Address: 216.58.24.33#53

** server can't find host.kahle.net: REFUSED

even after I turned the firewall off completely. Any ideas?

How are you turning off the firewall ? ipfw -f -q flush ? Give some more details... Maybe you flush all the rules, and you're firewall is set to deny by default or something...
Also, check the rules of your firewall before and after turning on/off the firewall... (ipfw list >> firewall.txt)
