Hi all,
I am new on solaris. I want to know that, how to generate a core dump file. And how can i extract the information of the segmentation fault from the
core dump file.
I am producing the segmentation fault with the following code.

#include<stdio.h>

int main() {
int *p;
*p = 10;
return 0;
}

But it is not generating any core dump file in that directory.

Anybody can help me.....

your code is not gonna generate a segfault because it is correct

driver what u said is correct. i guess i should have said that in some system it might not generate a SEGFAULT. specially in some SUn. i am using a SUn MIcrosystems and some time u get away with some bugs (special for small programs)

use gcore
gcore pid:
gcore will generate a core dump of the running process called core
actually on solaris that is what i ve been using:

once again driver: u are right: i should have elaborated on my answer.. but sometimes Sun workstations does not catch some memory bugs specially
