Serverhost 127.0.0 error message on apache

my apache 2.0 is up and running but after trying to reconfigure it for specifics I ended up with a permanent eror message that I can't seem to get rid of .. when I run the server ( just / */apachect1 start )
the message reads "cannot locate name localhost for server 127.0.0"
so far I have tried to change the LIsten options and have tried two different IPaddresses from the ifconfig file
su -
ifconfig | grep 'inet addr' | fgrep -v 127.0.0
and used the IP addres and the IBcast address on two different ports and connot get rid of IP 127.0.0 error message
any suggestions welcome.

A couple of questions. Within httpd.conf do you have a line such as
ServerName localhost:8080

i.e. using "localhost" as the servername, or do you have the IP address?

What does "grep 127.0.0 /etc/hosts" give?

The loopback IP address should be 127.0.0.1 - you've lost the "1" somewhere.

From what's posted it looks to me like apache is trying to resolve localhost using /etc/hosts that has an incorrect entry (i.e. an incorrect localhost entry).

Let us know what you find!

Cheers

i have already been back into /etc/hosts and replaced what I changed with 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain..
also in the httpd.conf file i don't have a line that requests a server name i have line for a Listen post and a line for Serveradmin is as close as I get to servername... no i tried using the IP address with 8080 and removed it... where would I place this? with the Listen or with the Serveradmin. finally my listen port is set to 8080 and serveradmin to localhost.localdomain.
