HPUX by default comes with a seriously handicapped compiler. It does not support ANSI C 89, just K & R C.

Is sudosh from the guys at sage.org or is it from sourceforge?

There are workarounds:
See if there is a HPUX binary out there somewhere
Upgrade your C compiler
