when i change the policy of name service switch on HPUX 10.X the effect is immediat but in release 11 and 11.11 the changes of /etc/nsswith.conf are efficient only after reboot even i restart the nis daemons or named.do you know why?

What exactly are you changing? And what does not seem to know about the change? Changes are immediate for me.

The only thing I think of that might be an issue is sendmail and then only if you have a sendmail daemon running. If so, you may need to to stop and restart sendmail.

CPU & Memory name service(2)

the change is the usage of nis service for login and passwd in addition of the content of file /etc/passwd.
the syntax used by sam is compat in the file /etc/nsswitch.conf and i think it's correct.
i put the + in /etc/passwd for use nis service.
after i start the nis daemon by /sbin/init.d/nis.client start.
the nis commands appears to work correcttly but a connection on a nis user display the answer user id unknown
the problem disappear after a reboot
thanks
