AIX

Hi,
I am working with IBM P-series servers for the past six months and I am now planning to do a certification in AIX -
IBM 000-103 : AIX 6.1 Basic Operations

Do anyone have any study material for the preparation of this certification?
Also I want to know from anyone who has done this certification, about the value of the above certification.

IBM redbooks is a great resource. Also take a practice test at ibm.com/certify. This will show you where you need to focus your studies on. As for the value -- that is subjective but I am sure the HR/Management types will like it. IMO the basic operations would not be worth much but a stepping stone to getting the admin certifications. Real world experience is worth way more than any AIX certification.

I am a little dubious about the value of certifications, the last course that I did was in 1989 - Data General Admin One. This course and certification allowed me to move into contracting, it was a great help - however the knowledge it provided was almost never used in the following 20 years.

I'm not saying that a Certification is worthless, it will in all probability get you to the interview stage where it is all up to your on the spot knowledge. In general if you can demonstrate a good knowledge at that stage you will have a much better chance of getting the position. But you do have to be able to get to the interview stage.

As has been already mentioned the IBM RedBooks are an excellent source of information and well worth investigating, here you may well learn all you need to know. But when it comes to getting a job, the most important thing is getting your bum on the seat in front of the interview panel.

Actually I tried searching for the red books and on net too but unfortunately have got nothing there related to this certification. That's why I asked it here so as to get any study material or valuable information related to the topic.

Is there any special reason by you want to do 000-103?

This certification is proving that you do not have enough knowledge to be an AIX Administrator.
It is not a part for Power certification path and can be easly skipped.
In my opinion you should start with Test 000-221 - AIX 7 Administration. This is first certification required for cert path.
