New to Unix - display issue

new to the forums hope is this the right area to post this, I have 4 IBM servers (inherited) and all of them are connecting through a KVM. Probelm is all the servers are fuzzy on the monitor. I have tried switching multiple monitors and all get the same effect no matter if they are wide screen or just regular, I even tried a crt monitor to no avail. I have taken the systems off of the KVM and plugged directly into the monitors and still get the fuzzy screen. I have searched all over the place and havent found a resolution for this problem. Has anyone experienced this or have a suggestion to resolve?

Regards,
Setnaro

Start from giving type and model of your server.
Second you you really need screen and monitor? Connect standard null-modem serial cable to any windows or Linux server in your serve room. Then you will be having properly working remote access to your power server by hyperterminal/putty (windows) or screen (linux).

I am using this solution for my old power3 boxes

Does "fuzzy" mean that you can read the characters on the screen or is the display unreadable? Are you using a SVGA video cable or something else like a serial cable? Have you checked that the screen refresh rate matches your local mains supply?

I can only guess but i bet my money on the characters being unreadable. VGA connectors are very rare (only at desktop systems like the 43P) and the most common connection to a server is a (crossover) nullmodem cable and a serial terminal. The wrong connection characteristics result in a lot of hieroglyphs being displayed.

Perhaps change the connection characteristics to 8,N,1 at 9600 (older models) or 19200 (newer models) Baud. Are you using a cross-over nullmodem cable?

I hope this helps.

It's the KVM switch that makes me wonder because KVM switches usually switch Keyboard/Video (SVGA)/Mouse.
We need the O/P to post the make and model of the KVM and detail the server models involved, the ports connected and the cables used. Might as well mention the Display make and model too and the local mains voltage and frequency.

Hmm. The only clue we have so far is IBM servers (inherited).
