CDE and dual monitors

I am trying to get AIX CDE to run with dual monitors. I just upgraded to my desktop to use dual monitors. When I log in to my AIX system with exceed running and issue the Xsession command the Splash screen flash on 1 screen then disappears but the desktop never shows. How do I set up Xsession to use 2 monitors or to disregard 1 of the 2 monitors.

Sorry to have to say that, but: that depends.

First, could you please explain what your system setup is? As far as i have got it you are using Exceed(?) on a PC(?) and want to connect to a remotely attached(?) AIX system. Is that correct?

If so: Exceed is an X-Server. Your only problem is the X-Server configuration, CDE will just use whatever it is offered to use.

An X-Server has one or several "displays" to manage. With Exceed a "display" doesn't necessarily have to be a physical monitor, but could also be a virtual display spanning 2 physical monitors. Start with the "Xconfig" utility, part "screen definition". You should see 2 entries ("screen0" and "screen1") there. You can either check "use all monitors" or "use monitor(s) as screens" and enter the number of the screen you want to use.

Under "Monitor Info" enter the correct resolution of a single monitor and your display should work correctly on one or both monitors, depending on what you entered.

I hope this helps.
