Is there such thing like wget? Because I have telnet (no ssh) on a AIX machine, but I can't transfer a rpm file which I'd like to install. How can I do that? How can I transfer a file on the machine?

I'm not familiar with the preinstalled binaries on AIX. Is 'fetch' available?

Perhaps you can use straight 'ftp' to get the file. (This may be your only choice if 'wget' and 'fetch' are not available.)

Yes, that worked, I've transfer the file throught FTP and installed by loggin on the machine with telnet. Thank you very much!

maybe because AIX is rather used in large scale environments where a lot of professional applications would replace the built-in functionality anyway for security reasons, what could lead to problems that can easily be avoided. SSH is delievered together with the base AIX Software anyway and you can install it if you need it - its just on the Linux Toolbox CD.

OK, but AIX administrators shouldn't log onto the machine for maintainance and stuff? Supposing one application would stop for example, how a AIX Sysadmin should start the application without remote control?
