Hi folks,
I'm looking for a solution to pass variables to a sed-command. I'm reading a lot of threats and also the q&a "How can I use a variable in sed?". None of these commands works. I'm using AIX 5.2.
I want to do the following:

I have a script named testscript.sh
wherein I have two variables $var and $final (both of which contain a number)
I have a sed write function inside this script as follows:
sed '1,2 w somefile.txt' fromfile.txt

Hi,
In sed, is it possible to match patterns by directly executing UNIX commands inside sed?
For e.g. -
sed "s/`cat file.txt | cut -d "|" -f2`/replace_string"
Will the above command work?
My expectation is to search for the second field in file.txt (file delimited by | ) and replace... (10 Replies)

I need sed to add a "/>" to the end of a line that contains/starts with <meta.
current line is <meta name="keywords" content="kayword 1, kwyword2">
and should be <meta name="keywords" content="kayword 1, kwyword2 " />

Hi, i need help passing variables to sed using ksh.
My goal is to get particular data from log files.
first i put a mark to the log files.
echo "TEST_"`date + %m_%d_%Y_%T"` >markFile
this will produce a 'markFile' which contain text like this
TEST_06_01_2009_21:55:09

I understand that we can do the following
%exec UnixCmd arg1 arg2
but if I assinged the arguments to a list insde tclsh how can I use them back
i.e
%set ArgList
%exec UnixCmd
%exec Unixcmd $list
%exec

I've re-written some of our scripts to use more functions and I've run into a situation where passing a variable to a sed function does not work. My function is a one-liner sed command as follows:

Hi,
this is the example i'm trying to do.
script1.sh
ABC="test.txt"
./script2.sh "$ABC"
script2.sh
INPUT="$HOMEDIR/$ABC"
echo $INPUT
when i run the 1st script it gives me
../home/
the test.txt is not passed into 2nd script. How can i resolve this. (2 Replies)

Test::TempDir - Temporary files support for testing. SYNOPSIS
use Test::TempDir; my $test_tempdir = temp_root(); my ( $fh, $file ) = tempfile(); my $directory_scratch_obj = scratch(); DESCRIPTION
Test::TempDir provides temporary directory creation with testing in mind. The differences between using this and using File::Temp are: o If "t/tmp" is available (writable, creatable, etc) it's preferred over $ENV{TMPDIR} etc. Otherwise a temporary directory will be used. This is "temp_root" o Lockfiles are used on "t/tmp", to prevent race conditions when running under a parallel test harness. o The "temp_root" is cleaned at the end of a test run, but not if tests failed. o "temp_root" is emptied at the begining of a test run unconditionally. o The default policy is not to clean the individual "tempfiles" and "tempdirs" within "temp_root", in order to aid in debugging of failed tests. EXPORTS
temp_root The root of the temporary stuff. tempfile tempdir Wrappers for the File::Temp functions of the same name. The default options are changed to use "temp_root" for "DIR" and disable "CLEANUP", but these are overridable. scrach Loads Directory::Scratch and instantiates a new one, with the same default options as "tempfile" and "tempdir".
