I have the following question. Let's say that I have the following script

a=` printf "%6.2f" $value `
b=`echo $value + $value | bc -l`
echo $a

And the exit is:

What is the deal with explanation point in bash? I thought only dollar sign ($), the back-tick (`) and the backslash (\) were special in double quotes. Can someone please explain what is going on here? Why do I have to use single quotes or backslash the "!"?

I have the following code snippet in bash

By default, double quotes and back quotes (backticks) are not allowed as delimiters for any operators and single quotes are allowed as delimiters for the "m", "qr", "qx", and "s" operators.
