Hammer & Screwdriver THANX !!!

Kelam_Magnus

Well i am surely serious about my question; like I am always looking for logical reasons to clear my doubts & questions thats why I have put up this question. after taking a look at the long history of UNIX OS's......there no time to even compare all of them in any regardsSmilie ...your reply has given me now a clear concept of what are the unix flavors all about & why its not possible to give all the credits to just one flavor. thanx again.

Thanx for the advice as most people including you are recommending BSD's/Slackware/redhat.......thats why i am starting with Free BSD; about linux....i have been using red hat linux7x from last 6 months but i feel to shift to unix as in my country many students almost all are trying to go for linux.....certs etc everywhere I listen is linux over here...but a very few even know about the capabilities of unix.....may be thats why I feel it like when i am going to complete my graduation.....there will be a lot of people knowing linux but a very few to admin unix boxes. and i always want to go for something which is different.

Neo

Yes indeed; one cannot have all the flavors available at the icecream palor at the same time; it all depends on individual liking...Smilie & its gonna take a long time to taste em' all. Since I am new to this world of ICECREAM flavors; i don't know how they taste;...whether i m' gonna like vanila or strawberry....but its very nice of all of you out there to help me narrow my choices among the large number of flavors. thanx Neo.

It was my very first thread @ unix.com & thanx to all of you for your nice & kind suggestions; I feel it that now @ unix.com I am gonna have a superb time learning UNIX OS's with all you nice fellows helping around. thanx again everyone!Smilie Smilie

FEDFS-CREATE-REPLICATION(8) System Manager's Manual FEDFS-CREATE-REPLICATION(8)

NAME
fedfs-create-replication - send a FEDFS_CREATE_REPLICATION ADMIN protocol request SYNOPSIS
fedfs-create-replication [-?d] [-n nettype] [-h hostname] [-l nsdbname] [-r nsdbport] [-s security] path uuid INTRODUCTION
RFC 5716 introduces the Federated File System (FedFS, for short). FedFS is an extensible standardized mechanism by which system adminis- trators construct a coherent namespace across multiple file servers using file system referrals. For further details, see fedfs(7). FedFS-enabled file servers allow remote administrative access via an authenticated RPC protocol known as the FedFS ADMIN protocol. Using this protocol, FedFS administrators manage FedFS junctions and NSDB connection parameter information on remote FedFS-enabled file servers. DESCRIPTION
The fedfs-create-replication(8) command is part of a collection of low-level single-use programs that is intended for testing the FedFS ADMIN protocol or for use in scripts. It sends a single FEDFS_CREATE_REPLICATION request to a remote FedFS ADMIN protocol service. The FEDFS_CREATE_REPLICATION request creates a replication marker in a local file system on a remote file server. The contents of a repli- cation marker are an UUID and an NSDB name and port. The fedfs-create-replication(8) command takes two positional parameters which specify the pathname on the remote server of the replication, and an UUID. This pathname is relative to the roo of the local file system on the remote server. Required NSDB information can be inferred from the command's environment or specified on the command line. The meaning of these arguments is described in more detail in fedfs(7). OPTIONS
-d, --debug Enables debugging messages during operation. -?, --help Displays fedfs-create-replication(8) version information and a usage message on stderr. -h, --hostname=hostname Specifies the hostname of a remote FedFS ADMIN service. If this option is not specified, the default value is localhost. -n, --nettype=nettype Specifies the transport to use when contacting the remote FedFS ADMIN service. Typically the nettype is one of tcp or udp. If this option is not specified, the default value is netpath. See rpc(3t) for details. -l, --nsdbname=NSDB-hostname Specifies the hostname of the NSDB to insert into the new FedFS replication. If this option is not specified, the value of the FEDFS_NSDB_HOST environment variable is consulted. If the variable is not set and the --nsdbname option is not specified, the fedfs-create-replication(8) command fails. -r, --nsdbport=NSDB-port Specifies the IP port of the NSDB to insert into the new FedFS replication. If this option is not specified, the value of the FEDFS_NSDB_PORT environment variable is consulted. The default value if the variable is not set is 389. -s, --security=flavor Specifies the security flavor to use when contacting the remote FedFS ADMIN service. Valid flavors are sys, unix, krb5, krb5i, and krb5p. If this option is not specified, the unix flavor is used. See the SECURITY section of this man page for details. EXAMPLES
Suppose you are the FedFS administrator of the example.net FedFS domain and that your domain's NSDB hostname is nsdb.example.net. To cre- ate a new FedFS replication on the file server fs.example.net, use: $ fedfs-create-replication -h fs.example.net -l nsdb.example.net /export/replication1 `uuidgen -t` In this example, a new UUID is created on the spot. It can be read back from the server using the fedfs-lookup-replication(8) command. SECURITY
By default, or if the sys and unix flavors are specified with the --security=flavor option, the fedfs-create-replication(8) command uses AUTH_SYS security for the Remote Procedure Call. AUTH_SYS has known weaknesses and should be avoided on untrusted networks. The RPC client uses the Kerberos v5 GSS mechanism if a Kerberos security flavor is specified. When specifying a Kerberos security flavor, the user must first obtain a valid Kerberos ticket using kinit(1) before running fedfs-create-replication(8). The AUTH_NONE security flavor is no longer supported by this implementation. SEE ALSO
