What do you mean by "implement the history command"? What exactly have you done and what exactly are you trying to do now?

Hello thank you for your reply. I want to keep track on my change of directories. Or just prints the directories you've been through Smilie

Are you after something similar to the dirs internal command of bash?

Code:
$ pushd /usr/local/bin
$ pushd /etc
$ dirs
/etc /usr/local/bin ~

If you do the same a bash and store the stack in the array DIRSTACK it should be as simple as:

Code:
alias dirs='echo "${DIRSTACK[@]}"'

Of course, it would help if you told us what shell you are using. Our crystal balls are not working at present.

What error message are you getting?

What is the output of:
Code:
$ pushd /usr/local/bin
$ pushd /etc
$ dirs
$ echo $DIRSTACK
