Process explorer for MS Windows

I had a problem with a file in use on a Win2003 server, and found a really good program on Microsoft's web site.
It is the equivalent of unix fuser.

Written by the same Mark Russnovich that discovered the Sony rootkit. Discovered with this same family of utilities even.

They were all open-source, too! Until MS panicked, bought him, and swept it away. I think the source might still be available somewhere on archive.org .

Now if someone would just...

Now if someone would just put out a registry tweak to make the Toolbar right-click menu choice "Task Manager" open Process Explorer instead of Windows TM, it'd eliminate the need for shortcut files or hotkey scripts.

Kind of a spoof or a mimic: keep the words "Task Manager" in the menu but have the app or DDE link go to PE instead. Kind of like a hardwired .bat file.

It's now all neatly packaged into a single download.
