selling our information

every other day or so i get a few emails about jobs around the states. i've posted several times to monster, careerbuilder and dice but this was about a year ago. i've since made them inactive as i have found a job and a well paying one at that Smilie . anyway, the people who email me are from all different areas and companies not associated to the job boards. i take it these job boards sell our information to 3rd parties for a large amount of money. anyone out there have any idea as to how much?? what kinds of information can you get? also, i personally enjoy when i get an email about a senior unix admin job. most are looking for about 10 years experience. professionally, i have 1/5 of that Smilie

I am constantly getting job information about jobs in different places. When I email them to remove me from their mailing lists as I live nowhere near where they are looking for an employee. then I keep getting emails from them. It seems to me they get the lists from people that have pulled bulk address from careerbuilder.

Personally I don't like getting those mails, and consider them spam like any other from of unsolicited mail. The agencies who usually do this get paid a fee every time they find a recruit who gets hired and stays on for a predetermined period of time. They may get you a job, then as soon as you have been there for long enough for them to collect their fee thy start sending you more possible jobs so that they can get another fee.

For that reason when I am looking to change employment I get myself a prepaid phone number and a new email address ( both are disposable ), when done I just stop using them. I have no problem giving my employer my long term details if I take up a position but do not readily give them to "service providers".

yea. spam indeed. its is rather annoying when these things come in. i live in jersey and get stuff for ohio to nebraska to florida. i feel as if there names are made up as well!! just dumby accounts to get you to respond.

also, i liked neo's comment Smilie Smilie

here in india, credit card companies, insurance companies, resorts etc etc create an account with naukri dot com and monster india dot com - so they get easy access to a huge database of working people without much hassle

I also set myself inactive about 9 months ago on various job boards as I was getting way too many crummy offers heh. The headhunters out there search for resumes on the job boards and then keep their own local records of contacts and resumes. When they come up dry for a position they dip back into their own records. And we keep getting calls. For the most part I have not had the specific issue of getting jobs from abroad. I am also in NJ. 90% of hits are within 2 hours of my location.

I am enjoying a 15 minute commute now tho Smilie

Question on selling/unloading Sunfire V240

Over 6 years ago I picked up a Sunfire V240 from my employer who was unloading all of their Sun hardware. Two processors, 4GB RAM and half dozen SCSI disk drives. It doesn't have an OS or a CD Rom/DVD drive. I have a collection of SCSI drives that should work with the server. So if I can get... (2 Replies)
