The AMIGA, great or flop. Your memories...

Hi everybody...

Anyone who sees posts from me see the word AMIGA on my machines' terminal prompts.

AMINET is the oldest Internet SW repository and currently holds 82,800+ freely available SW packages.

About Aminet - AminetWiki

I am a member of LAG, (Linclonshire Amiga Group), in the UK and meet 6 times a year.
I still code for the old tub as do many, many others, and have done loads of uploads, one being of professional quality and used at where I worked before retiring. Most of the apps were related to electronic measuring equipment, yeah you guessed it one was a real oscilloscope of which the front end GUI is on this site somewhere...

If you have ever owned an AMIGA, which BTW the CLI has a subset of UNIX terminal escape codes, what are your fond or hated memories of the platform.

And last but not least my A1200 has been powered up. (except for involuntary power cuts etc), since 1992. The only failure so far is the external 5.25 inch Floppy Drive...

I look forwards to your memories...

I used to use the Amiga, the C64 and the Tandy TRS 80, to name a few.

Frankly, I don't have any nostalgia for any of them now; but loved them back in the day. A video of your Amiga running would be cool, I think.

But of all three, the Amiga, the C64 and the TRS80 I liked the C64 the best, back in the day.

Hi Neo...

Not a video but 5 photos taken today, apologies for some blurredness my shakes get the better of me...
Ignore the dust etc, I only use this for testing code written on WinUAE and FS-UAE as proof... <wink>

1st photo.
On the CRT display is a photo of a parallel development board using ADPro(2.5), (Art Department Pro).
On top of the monitor itself the oscilloscope that uses the parallel port; the CD drive plugged into the PCMCIA port and part of the KB.

2nd photo.
KB, standing on CD drive and now faulty 5.25 inch drive, with an HD 1.76MB floppy drive in the middle.

3rd photo.
Mouse, parallel switcher, serial switcher and the blackish piece a 56K modem - cough.

4th photo.
The very, very rare PCM 4MB expansion which gives 8MB "fastram" with the trapdoor expansion. These CREATED a major OS bug that took me a while to find until I realised what was going on.

5th photo.
The whole also showing the scanner on the shelf too.
The video attachments and printer are not in the area.

EDIT:
No idea why the photos are not showing, the attachments show they are there.

Hi all...

(This site and its staff have been good to me and kept this.)
The 'scope in the monitor photo, Post 3, is here, a GIF anim:

GIF Anim of my AMIGA real Oscilloscope.

Thanks Neo and co for being so tolerant as this is not UNIX related.

Hey!

We have never had any requirement here for posts to be only UNIX (or Linux) related.

In fact, just about anything can be posted in the "What Is On Your Mind" forum, as long as it follows our rules (no bulling, hateful speech, divisiveness, racism, etc)... and of course it is always best to avoid divisive discussions like individual political, national or religious beliefs, which in my mind are already covered in the "be polite" rule since we should all know that just because we believe is something strongly, another person might have the totally opposite view and things can get easily overheated when people post "belief systems" opinions and ideas.

Personally, I am not a big fan (or even a small fan) of any particular belief system which groups and binds people together in a way which divides their group from other groups. Political systems, religious systems, nationalism, etc. all are "belief systems" which tightly unite and bind a group of people together, and the results are always divisiveness, pitting groups against groups, systems against systems.

In other words, on a most positive note, I think wisecracker's posts about his hobbies are some of the best posts in the forums, especially since his tech hobby is not the same as mine (or perhaps yours as well), so it is a joy and an honor to see what he is up to in his hobbies and audio lab.

It would be great if others would post similar hobbies, especially their tech hobbies, since our audience is highly technical unix and linux people.

Go For It!

Phenominal and it is still being supported- WOW! My A1200 is on 24/7 and I use it to test code developed on AMIGA emulators... ... (0 Replies)
