Dang VCR

Saleslady: Sir, that VCR is really aimed towards the professional videographer....

Me: Don't worry about it. I learn fast and I enjoy learning. That is the model I want.

Saleslady: OK. You're the customer.

Excerpt from VCR Manual:
Quote:
Control 43: AUTO/WIDE/NOR Switch
AUTO: In recording mode, the unit searches for the DC component on the chroma signal of the S-VIDEO signal, and when the DC is detected, the ID is recorded onto the CTL signal as the WIDE signal. In playback mode, the ID recorded on the CTL signal is detected and superimposed onto the chroma signal output of the S-VIDEO signal.

WIDE: In recording mode, the ID is recorded forcibly onto the CTL signal, and in the playback mode, DC is superimposed onto the chroma signal output of the S-VIDEO signal.

NOR: Fixed to normal recording and playback mode.

Eh, don't worry about it.

I've seen your posts before.

By Wednesday you'll have attached the thing to a Unix box and written scripts to make it do everything a normal VCR does and wash your car.

Maybe, but I have had the VCR for several years so far. Smilie

I understand 95% of it and I do far more with it than any consumer VCR can do. I even think that stunt I've worked out would surprise the folks that designed it.

But that final 5% has eluded me so far. I've been using home theatre equipment for a long time. But I don't know what the DC component of a chroma signal is. Nor a CTL signal. And I especially don't understand why I would want to superimpose anything on my chroma signal. Oh well.... Smilie

Does that 5% include fixing the flashing 12:00 on the display???
