New Forum

well after a long time, this valuable resource that is UNIX.COM has an off topic forum. personally i think it is a step in the right direction. with a forum like this people can talk about anything they want and not worry about sticking to technical stuff. this keep the integrity of the board high, while technical threads go in their respective forums, and off topic things go here, it will keep useless stuff out of the technical forums.

as long as everyone here follows more or less the regular rules here with the exception of staying on topic, there should be no problems. ie no windows bashing, and id rather not see any threads asking which is better, linux or bsd, or bsd or windows, osx or linux etc etc. just cause people use whats right for them.

however political views i guess would be ok. such as comments on microsofts business practices, talking about it in a respectable manner should be fine.

thanks!

Idle Chatter OK.... :) - Rule 3 Suspended

Please stick to the forum rules, with the exception of the 'idle chatter' rule Smilie

(1) No flames, shouting (all caps), sarcasm, bullying, profanity or arrogant posts.

(2) No negative comments about others or unpolite remarks. Be patient.

(3) Refrain from idle chatter that does not contribute to the knowledge base. (This rule is suspended in the Lounge).

(4) Do not 'bump up' questions if they are not answered promptly. No duplicate or cross-posting.

(5) Search the forums database with your keywords before asking.

(6) Do not post classroom or homework problems.

(12) The forum administrators reserve the right to prune, move or edit posts that do not adhear to the rules or are technically inaccurate.

well i wont let it become a "trash can" as you put it, Smilie . haha so dont worry about that.

i was just thinking of pm's right before i read your post, and even though i like pm's on other boards, i think it wouldnt be a good idea. ive had people IM me before on my AIM screen name asking for help and i had to deny it to them because i wanted to follow the rules here.

and an addition to the rules up top that neo posted, no technical unix related questions allowed here. we want this to remain a searchable knowledge base. since the off topic forums wont (is this still the case?) be included in searches it wouldnt benefit anyone in the future. and itll be un organized so browsing through the forums wouldnt be good either. also posts here are gonna be deleted after some time, so again another reason why tech q and a should stay in the technical forums.
