Linux Dream Job - Achieved

Several years ago, I posted a thread titled:

"Where are the UNIX Admin Jobs?"
https://www.unix.com/job-board/29954-...dmin-jobs.html

Well, I am happy to say that after being a phone jockey, and then being unemployed for 11 months, I am now working as a Linux Systems Administrator@HRsmart.

I am posting this as encouragement for others reaching for a goal, and hell, I'm excited too.

I don't plan to stop here, I am getting into Android Develoment, and working on certs since I have income and the company I work with will assist me.

So, anyone else working the job they love?

Hi Chlordane,

I posted a couple replies to your original post way back when so I was interested to see this follow-up. I'm happy to report in answer to your current question that I think I've found my dream job as well. After 10 years in Unix admin I was getting burned out. I was working in a huge company (6 guys supporting 3500 servers) with tons of bureaucratic red tape, tons of off-hours maintenance work and pager coverage, etc. But last fall I found a job teaching SAN training classes for Compellent. Before getting into computers I was going to Graduate School for Astrophysics and loved teaching classes as a teaching assistant and adjunct professor, so finding a job where I could get back into teaching without throwing away 15 years experience in the I.T. field was perfect for me. Compllent is a small but fast growing company in my home town with a fantastic working environment as well, which is a bonus.

That's great!! I've been working in Unix for most of my professional life and lately as a contractor. It's always good to find a spot where you actually like going to work M-F.

Congrads!! Smilie

Congrats and always good to hear from people that like what they do for a living. Trust it is as inspiring for the people around you as it is for you.

rhfrommn,

I remember, thanks for the encouraging words.
I am glad to hear you found something that wont burn you out too.
Like I told my wife, (who is starting to get deep into photography and web dev) do what you love, not what your parents, or friends love, do what you love to do.
