I do not use my cell phone for Internet access. One reason is that i shun cell phones anyways. We have a proverb in german, translated it is "one who is always available is part of the domestic staff" (Wer immer erreichbar ist, gehört zum Personal.). IMHO there is simply no reason to be available and contactable 24 hours per day. We had no cell phones 15 years ago and earth was still revolving even despite this appalling shortcoming.

A second reason is the exorbitant rates the cell phone companies charge for internet access. I simply am not willing to pay another 30-40$ per month for something i have for free in the office and for 5$/month at home. I can live with being offline for the time it takes to commute to the office and back.

Internet access is part of my telephone contract. For an additional EUR 5 (which is actually a bit more than $5, ~$6 or so) i have an internet flat rate with an ADSL 6000 connection included.

I would have settled for an even slower connection, because the part of the web i browse is mostly like here - largely text. I do not use video-on-demand or such things. But the 6M/s connection was included, so i didn't complain.

FWIW: I now pay about a few dollars (between 5 and 6) a month as part of a DTAC "fun" package that includes 30 hours of GPRS per month (which is not enough for me, I need more GPRS hours!).... and this is in addition to all the free Internet I get at my condo!

I never enjoyed GPRS Internet access until I got my Nokia E61 with a nice big landscape screen and then when I installed the Opera Mini browser, I was amazed at the speed. It is certainly useful when away from desktops and laptops.

My home internet access is free. Comes with the cable service ($55 a month). Work provides a Blackberry. I want to chase down an ssh client for it so I can use it. Work also blocks a bunch of sites so I use my work cell phone to browse the blocked sites Smilie

I used to have SSH on my Blackberry, but I have not used a Blackberry in over a year and forgot where I downloaded it. A Google search turned up a few downloads, including this one (not verified):

Download Mobile SSH for BlackBerry - Mobile SSH for BlackBerry
