After logging this detection process, it appears that our code for detecting mobile is classifying a number of Chinese user agent strings as "mobile devices" but Google Analytics is not classifying the same (Android) UAs as mobile.
I trust Google's detection algorithm much more than our quite old and outdated detection code, so I started logging all these requests, but so far, I have not had time to do the analysis.

If anyone has any up-to-date, latest-and-greatest code, preferably in PHP, to classify mobile devices based on UA, please post back.
For the first time in the history of the site Google Search Console (GSC) has unix.com showing "no mobile viewability errors". This is no small achievement considering the hundreds of thousand of lines of legacy code we run at a site which has been around much longer than Facebook or LinkedIn:
