SuSE 8.1 NIC problem

i have just installed suse 8.1 on a third computer which has an Asus p4s8x with onboard NIC and sound. now, on install suse detected everything automatically with no probelm, however upon reboot the sound failed to load as well as the network card. /dev/eth* doesnt exist. i looked in the bios and disabled plug and play and the sound worked, but the NIC still failed to load. i will have to post back with some error messages and dmesg output, but until then does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is? the OS detects and uses the right drivers for the card but it just dosnt work. again, /dev/eth0 (and so on) doensnt exist. on boot when my dhcp client tries to get an IP from my router it complains of just that, /dev/eth0 dosnt exist. ok any help is apprieciated. thank you.

More info required - found the following on what you did post - it shows the P4s8x as compatible but gives a different NIC card and shows no testing for sound - Linux-tested.com

i ended up just installing a spare nic i had lying around, however i didnt save the dmesg output from when i was trying to get the onboard nic enabled, so for now ill just leave it as is. thanks for the help though. probably on another rainy day when i feel like tinkering ill try to get it to work some more. thanks anyway!
