How to make a FreeBSD hdd writable from WinXP?

Hey, I was wondering how I can write/edit files on my FreeBSD hdd from windows XP. I specifically need to fix a change I made to /boot/defaults/loader.conf that made it impossible to boot into my FreeBSD hdd. It's a simple fix, but since I can't boot into FreeBSD, I have to fix it from my Windows hdd. My problem is that when I try to save the fixed .conf file, it says that the FreeBSD hdd is write protected. Any suggestions on how to make the FreeBSD hdd writable from Windows XP?

Boot from a linux live/rescue cd if you have one - mount the partition manually and make the change.

Perhaps cygwin or something might help?

While I agree that booting a Linux Live-CD or the FreeBSD install CD to get into a "rescue mode", Cygwin won't help here. It only provides a Unix-like environment on top of Windows, but it won't help with any filesystem problems as it usually doesn't come with any kind of drivers.
